The characteristics and functions of fire-resistant glass

Date:2023-08-16

Fire-resistant glass, a flame-retardant material, exhibits an extremely low thermal conductivity and can maintain excellent thermal insulation performance in both low-temperature and high-temperature environments. Fire-resistant glass is made from natural inorganic fibers formed by melting minerals such as limestone blocks and quartz powder in a furnace and then subjecting them to high-speed centrifugation or radiation drawing. Subsequently, it is processed into various products through forming equipment.

Fire-resistant glass also has outstanding sound absorption performance, does not calm down, does not release toxic gases, and does not corrode or age. In addition, it has low water absorption and performs well in humid environments.

Fire-resistant glass has a high strength function: under the same thickness, its strength is 6 to 12 times that of ordinary float glass and 1.5 to 3 times that of tempered glass. Therefore, under the same wind pressure, it can be painted with a thinner thickness or a larger area, thereby enhancing the sense of transparency and reducing the cost.

High fire resistance: High-strength single-pane fire-resistant glass is a type of curtain wall or door and window glass used for building exterior walls with fire resistance. It can remain unshattered for 96 to 183 minutes under the impact of a 1000℃ flame, effectively preventing the spread of flames and smoke, which is conducive to the immediate detection of fire and allows people sufficient time to evacuate the scene.

High weather resistance: Compared with traditional grouting or laminated fire-resistant glass, high-strength single-pane fire-resistant glass, in addition to its high strength, also has the most prominent feature of high weather resistance. Chemical grouting or laminated glass quickly turns milky white and generates bubbles under ultraviolet radiation, losing the basic function of glass transparency. This is also the main reason why fire-resistant glass cannot be used as exterior walls. Fire-resistant glass, while high-strength single-pane fire-resistant glass, like ordinary glass, does not undergo any changes under ultraviolet radiation.
